This page explains how Ink Swift uses cookies and similar browser storage. I write it in plain language because consent should be understandable, not buried in legalese. If anything here conflicts with the Privacy notice, treat this page as the detailed source for storage categories.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a site asks your browser to remember. Local storage is a related technology — a little shelf in your browser. I use both sparingly and only for purposes described here.

What I use

Essential. The consent system itself requires storage so the banner does not reappear every visit. Name: sg_blog_consent, mirrored as cookie_consent_v1 in localStorage. Duration: about six months. Content: a JSON object recording essential=true, your functional and analytics choices, a timestamp, and version number.

Functional. Google Maps embeds on every page are treated as functional / embedded content. If you reject functional storage, maps hide behind a placeholder with a Load map button that grants functional consent for that session when clicked. If you accept functional storage, maps display normally. I do not use Google Maps JavaScript API keys or billing accounts — only standard embed iframes.

Analytics. I do not set analytics cookies. The toggle exists so you can see the category and refuse it explicitly. It remains off unless you turn it on and save — which will still do nothing because no analytics scripts are installed.

Your controls

On first visit you will see a bottom strip with Accept all, Reject all, and Customise. Accept all enables functional maps. Reject all keeps maps placeholder-only until you load them deliberately. Customise opens a panel where Essential stays locked on, Functional and Analytics can be toggled, and Save writes your choice.

Manage cookies

Managing cookies reopens the same panel with your saved state reflected. You may change your mind at any time. Clearing site data in your browser also clears consent and will show the banner again.

Third parties

Google processes technical data when a map iframe loads. I do not control Google's processing. Read Google's policies if you need detail. I do not embed social widgets, video players, or comment widgets that set their own tracking cookies.

Map policy on this site

Ink Swift uses approach (a): placeholder until functional consent. This differs from sites that always show maps as strictly functional. I document that choice here so you know what Reject all means — pages remain readable, neighbourhoods remain describable in text, maps wait politely.

Retention and security

Consent records expire after six months by Max-Age on the cookie. Values are URL-encoded JSON without secrets. SameSite=Lax and Secure (on HTTPS) reduce leakage. I do not store identity in consent records.

Children

This blog is written for general readers, not aimed at children. I do not knowingly profile minors. Parents may email me if a child contacted me by mistake.

Updates

If I add a new storage category — unlikely on this static site — I will update this page and ask for consent again where required. The last updated date at the top changes when I edit.
